WordPress: Create Post, Page, Category or Tag

This tutorial will help to understand the process of creating a post, page, category or tags to organize the content in WordPress effectively.

Create a post (or a page)

  1. Login to your WordPress Dashboard.
  2. Go to Posts (or Pages) > Add New.
  3. Give it a title and add your content.
  4. Publish it (or save it as a Draft, if you’re not done).

Add category or tags

  1. Go to Posts > Categories.
  2. Type a name and click on “Add New Category“.

Follow the same instructions to create a tag, but go to Posts > Tags.

How to create a subcategory?

Go to Posts > Categories > select the main category from the Parent Category drop-down and click on the “Add New Category” button.

Add category or tag to a post

To add a category or a tag to a new post:

  1. Go to Posts > Add New.
  2. Click on the Categories or Tags panels from the right column.
  3. Create a new category/add a new tag.

Or, if you prefer a faster method of adding a category or a tag to an existing post:

  1. Go to Posts.
  2. Hover over the post title you want to edit > click on Quick Edit.
  3. Select a category from the list/add a tag to the box.
  4. Click on the Update button.

Note: you can also quick edit multiple posts – just select the checkbox for the desired posts and click on “Bulk actions” > “Edit” > hit the “Apply” button. You can include specific Categories and Tags for the posts you selected in the available boxes. Don’t forget to click “Update” to save the changes.
